Sexual harassment a predatory behavior that many of us use when we have the power to do so

Sexual harassment or predatory behavior which terminology do you prefer if you are in a position of power?

If we take all the news that we see recently on television it seems to be that sexual abuse or harassment against women by famous figures who have power over their victims is a new phenomenon,  When we all know that in many work environment is a behavior that is not allowed according to the policies of companies, but is tolerated with silence when it comes to the powerful executives. .

Sexual abuse is not new human behavior in which it has been present since the foundation of humanity in which the strongest is imposed on the wishes of the weakest and sexual harassment is only an effect of this imposition.

Will laws much stronger against sexual harassment protect women? How about a change in education to the small boys at an early age? I do not think so! Because everything is a question of who has the power. When it is her words against his words, society always believes who has the power.

The latest allegations of sexual abuse against Republican Senator Alabana candidate Judge Roy Moore of the allegations against Democratic senator Al Franken and lately against Charlie Rose  give us the impression that we are facing an epidemic of sexual harassment right now.  They have something in common is that the alleged victims wait many years to report this sexual harassment.

What is the reason for this delay in reporting sexual abuse? "The victims are afraid to face someone in a position of power as the reason . Common sense tells me that the fear of retaliation is the reason behind this lack of reporting of sexual abuse or harassment" which may result in the loss of work or future opportunities for the victim .

The allegations of inappropriate behavior against Donald Trump and all the important television figures who were allegedly accused of sexual harassment as bill O'reilly and Roger Ailes on the Fox network gave us the impression that sexual harassment is a new phenomenon. We all know that this is not true.

Now we are discussing on the television screens these cases of sexual harassment in public in which we can all recognize the negative effects of behaviors on the victims. Do you really think that will make a difference? That will motivate more victims to report these sexual abuse more often? Not as long as there is an imbalance between those who hold power and those who do not have it in a society controlled by men that seldom believes in the victims. But, I can be wrong.

Let's analyze harassment or sexual abuse from a different perspective

Is sexual harassment a learned behavior on the contrary is a reflection of predatory behavior of the human being? For that we would enter the field of psychology that at this moment has not arrived or definitive conclusions when we talk about the predatory behavior that many animals possess which we humans also have.

If this behavior is genetically motivated or on the contrary is it learned? It is something that everyone who is in a position of power does not want to know, because it would imply how few we have advanced as human beings in which the type of culture, religious beliefs, laws or ethical we follow has not been able to suppress this predatory behavior in us .

If there is a predatory behavior there must be a victim as the reason for this behavior genetically programmed in us who motivates it. If you analyze the behavior of the victims and the perpetrators, all follow the same behavioral parameters where fear is on one side and the sense of control is on the other. I am a predator because I have the power to be one.

In a sexist society dominated by men the victims in most cases is a woman (weak sex). American society is not the exception when we talk about sexual abuse and harassment in the workplace and more when 80% of all positions of importance are controlled by men ..

When you are a political leader, a recognized figure, famous or admired by many, when you are in a position of power, society does not have the tools that suppress the predatory behavior that exists in you. "You have to learn to control it for yourself.".

Something that the American press has shown lately with the latest allegations of sexual harassment or abuse is that we still have a lot to learn from ourselves and the way we behave in the face of a reality that we can not change. When we are at the top we have a tremendous capacity to manipulate those around us, but also to produce fear in the victims where silence and shame are the only thing that remains.

Adding also those who facilitate this behavior with its silence, denial of facts, indifference against the victims and the ability to rationalize a behavior that we all know is morally condemnable in the name of family, political, religious, economic and social stability justifying the behavior of the sexual abuser in front of others.

If you are waiting for the political class, businessmen, military leaders, business owners, the different religious beliefs to put their interest in the physical emotional well being of the victims of sexual abuse, promoting stronger laws against predatory behavior you are putting your efforts in the wrong place and more when right now it is a politically used tool to disqualify an opponent.
